Now, students in California must be vaccinated against the coronavirus before they can go to school.

California Governor Gavin Newsom announced Friday morning that the state will add the Covid-19 vaccine to the immunizations needed to attend school in person.

This will make California the first state to do so.

According to a press release from Newsom’s office, these requirements will be implemented in stages by grade group (7-12 and K-6) Group proceed.

“We intend (required) that once the FDA fully approves the vaccine, this will give us time to work with the region, and time for us to work with parents and educators to build more trust and confidence, and to establish logistics for We can achieve what we are promoting here today,” Newsom said.

This requirement will take effect at the beginning of the term of office after the FDA fully approves the grade group-January 1 or July 1, the governor’s office added in its release.

“Based on current information, this requirement is expected to apply to grades 7-12 starting July 1, 2022,” the press release said. “However, local health jurisdictions and local educational institutions are encouraged to implement the requirements before they are implemented statewide based on local conditions.”

Independent study will become an option for unvaccinated students, according to CNN.

As early as May, the FDA authorized Pfizer’s Covid-19 vaccine to cover people between 12 and 15 years of ageIn August, the agency fully approved the Pfizer vaccine for people 16 years of age and older.

Newsom told CNN’s Anna Cabrera a few minutes after the announcement: “This will accelerate our efforts to leave this pandemic behind.” “We have mandated 10 vaccines. In In many ways…this may be the most predictable announcement.”

“I have four young children. I can’t bear it anymore. Like most parents, I want to leave this thing behind and let the economy run again to ensure that our children never have to worry about getting a call. They could not go to school the next day because one of the children or a staff member tested positive,” the governor added.

At the end of last month, Pfizer and BioNTech reportedly stated that they had submitted Covid-19 vaccine data for children aged 5 to 11 to the FDA for preliminary review, although they have not yet sought emergency use authorization.
