King Charles III’s wife Camilla will officially go from ‘Queen’ to ‘Queen’ after her coronation at Westminster Abbey in London. A solemn religious ceremony dating back nearly a thousand years, Westminster Abbey has been the site of every English coronation since William The Conqueror in 1066.

Buckingham Palace tweeted on the eve of the coronation, using “Queen Camilla” – meaning Camilla’s official title will be Queen, who will be anointed and crowned in the historic ceremony.

The day’s official invitations, order of ceremonies, Church of England prayers and royal collection memorabilia all refer to Camilla as “The Queen” or “Queen Camilla”.

Although, the king’s wife would automatically become queen, only a change in legislation would prevent Camilla from becoming queen. “Queen Camilla” also officially appeared on the coronation invitation for the first time.

King Charles and Camilla’s relationship has spanned more than 50 years. Charles and Camilla met in 1970 and married in a low-key manner 18 years ago. Their love story was not embraced by royal fans as it involved Charles’ marriage to his ex-wife, Princess Diana. In February 2005, Charles and Camilla announced their engagement. The couple married in 2005.
