CBS News’ flagship broadcast, The World News Roundup, will celebrate its 85th birthday on Monday, March 13, and the station’s news network will celebrate the milestone with a full-day special.
America’s longest-running news broadcast (by radio and television), launched on March 13, 1938, becoming the first to feature a single live coverage by reporters stationed around the globe.The premiere is hosted by the host bob trout From New York, focusing on “Europe in Turmoil.”

“The world trembles tonight, torn apart by conflicting forces. During the day, the activities of turbulent Austria abound. Meanwhile, the outside world, severely shaken by the crisis in Austria, treads cautiously in the labyrinth of diplomatic danger.
As German troops swarmed through for the first time since 1914, capitals outside Germany were making big decisions. The inauguration radio newscast also featured a Edward Murrow, and then the CBS news executive. Murrow reported from Vienna.
