The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MEA) on Saturday issued a warning that fake offers were aimed at attracting Indian youth to lucrative jobs in Thailand.
The ministry said the target group was IT-skilled youth who were duped in the name of lucrative data entry jobs in Thailand through social media ads and agencies in Dubai and India.
“Our mission recently noted that dubious IT companies are offering lucrative jobs to lure Indian youths into ‘digital sales and marketing executives’ positions in Thailand through fake job rackets involved in call centre scams and cryptocurrency fraud. In Bangkok and Myanmar,” MEA said in a statement.
Most of the victims were reportedly taken illegally across the border into Myanmar and held captive to work in poor conditions, according to the foreign ministry. “Hence, Indian nationals are advised not to get caught up in fake job offers posted through social media platforms or other sources.”
The MEA also advises Indians to verify the qualifications of foreign employers through the relevant missions abroad before accepting any job offer.
“Before travelling on a tourist/visit visa for employment purposes, Indian nationals are advised to check/verify the documents of foreign employers through the relevant missions abroad, predecessors of recruitment agents and any company before accepting any job offer,” the statement said. ” .

The advice comes after the MEA on Thursday asked Indian nationals to exercise extreme caution before seeking employment in Thailand, as dozens of Indians were brought into Myanmar illegally as part of employment activities.
MEA spokesman Arindam Bagchi told a weekly press briefing that IT firms are engaged in digital scams and fake encryption. He said the scammers recruited Indian workers under the pretext of employment in Thailand.
“We are aware of fraudulent IT companies that appear to be engaged in digital scams and fake encryption. They appear to be working with agents in Dubai, Bangkok and India. They recruit Indian workers under the pretext of employment opportunities in Thailand,” said the MEA spokesperson.
He explained that Indian workers were lured by advertisements for lucrative jobs on social media and then taken to the Myawaddy border.
“That area, you know, is difficult to access because of the security situation on the ground. However, because of our mission in the country, we have been able to help free some of these victims from captivity or forced labor, and we are trying to help others, “He says.
Bagchi urged Indian nationals to exercise extreme caution before accepting such job offers. “It may also be mentioned here that Thailand’s visa-on-arrival scheme does not allow employment. Our embassies in Thailand and Myanmar have issued advisory opinions on this. We have also dealt with the matter in those two countries,” he said.
Earlier, the Indian Embassy in Yangon, Myanmar issued an announcement. It had warned against companies operating in digital scams in Myanmar’s remote eastern border region.
