Art: Ceramic Exhibition

Two ceramic works exhibition On view May 30 at the Walton Arts Center in Fayetteville, 495 W. Dickson St.:

◼️ “In the Stone,” by faculty, graduate and postbaccalaureate students in the Ceramics Studio at the University of Arkansas School of Art, in the Center’s Joy Pratt Markham Gallery. Artist list includes Renata Cassiano Alvarez, Qwist Joseph, Linda Lopez, Mathew McConnell, Jeannie Hulen, Adam Posnak, Beckett Chomyn, Nat Nicholson, Ana Buitrago Hernandez, Bia Furtado, Carletta Williams, Jocelyn Reid, Benjamin Pearey, Vincent Frimpong, Ya Yangqing and Cheng Yi’an.

Clay Sherrod is an educator and researcher in earth and physical sciences, astronomy and archaeology at the Petitjean Mountain Sky Observatory in Arkansas, focusing on the upcoming April 8, 2024 total solar eclipse and its impact on Arkansas state influence “Don’t Look Up: Predicting Solar Eclipses in 2024,” Today, 12:30-1:30 pm in the lecture theater of the Arkansas State University Beebe Science Building, 300 Peach St., Beebe. Arkansas Historic Preservation Program A training workshop on how to prepare for a National Register of Historic Places nomination will be held at the Arkansas Department of Heritage on April 22 at 9 am at 1100 North Street in Little Rock. Pine Bluff Campground

Southeast Arkansas Arts and Sciences Center Summer camps for teens ages 7-17 will be offered June 5 through the end of July, focusing on art, cooking, poetry, robotics and theater. Most camps run for a week, Monday through Friday. The Pine Bluff venue includes the center’s main facility at 701 S. Main St.; ARTSpace on Main, 623 S. Main St.; and ART WORKS on Main, 627 S. Main St.

line-up:

◼️ Art Jr. Camp, June 5-9, 1-4pm. Aida Ayers combines basic lessons in drawing, painting, quilting and sculpting by exploring the current central exhibition. Ages 7-11, maximum 10 students. Cost is $120, center membership is $95.

◼️ Poetry Camp, June 5-9 and June 12-16, 1-4pm. Focus on poetry and spoken language, and how rhythm and rhyme can help develop a love of language. Mentor: Poets of Chu. 12-17 years, maximum 15 students. $240, $190 for members.

◼️ Theater Jr. Camp, June 12-16, 9am-noon. The basics of musical theater preparation, collaboration and exploration, wrapping up with a public performance on June 16. Ages 7-11, maximum 10 students. $120, $95 for members.

◼️ Art Professional Training Camp, June 19-23, 9am-noon. Learn about drawing, painting, printmaking and sculpture by exploring current center exhibitions. 12-17 years old, up to 15 years old. $120, $95 for members.

◼️ Theater Pro Camp, June 19-23 & 26-30 1-4pm, culminating with a public performance on June 30. 12-17 years old, up to 15 years old. $240, $190 for members.

◼️ Robotics Camp, July 10-14, 9am-noon. Fundamentals of building a self-contained robot using circuits, LEDs and switches, coding for beginners, conductors and semiconductors. Instructor: Catherine Hoobanks. 12-17 years old, up to 15 years old. $180, $145 for members.

◼️ CrEATe Lab Professional Bootcamp, July 10-14, 1pm-4pm. Practice food preparation skills, gardening, food careers, and community service. 10-17 years old, up to 10 years old. Coach: Faith Anaya. $120, $95 for members.
