Chantelle Cameron confident of winning undisputed boxing title in Abu Dhabi

[ad_1]

“I’m looking forward to getting into the ring, see you among us.”

Maybe not the fight speech you’d expect from a boxing champ, but with a flawless 16-0 record and a 63.5kg WBC and IBF belt holder, action wins as Chantelle Cameron prepares to face Jessica McCaskill At Eloquent November 5th in Abu Dhabi.

The pair will compete for the undisputed super-bantamweight world title at the Etihad Arena as part of the highly anticipated Dmitry Bivol v Gilberto Ramirez bout sponsored by Matchroom Boxing and the Abu Dhabi Ministry of Culture and Tourism issued.

The British boxer will put both of her titles on the line when she goes head-to-head with McCaskill (12-2), herself the current undisputed champion of the 67kg welterweight, Holds WBC, WBA, WBO, IBO and IBF belts.

In this bout, the 38-year-old from St. Louis, Missouri, will lose weight in pursuit of the super lightweight belt.

“For me, the tougher the opponent, the better I am. I don’t take it lightly. I don’t take any opponent lightly, everyone is a threat,” said Cameron, 31. “I think it’s disrespectful to think I’m going to win a fight if I’m not putting in the work. I treat everyone the same, but someone like McCaskill who is indisputable at 147lbs (67kg) , I have full respect for her because she has done what I haven’t done and she is preventing me from achieving it.”

“So, in my head, it’s all or nothing. My mentality is that I’m with someone who’s arguably my favorite in this fight, and that motivates me,” she added.

“I refused to fail, I didn’t give up.”

Cameron reiterated that while this is the biggest challenge of her career, she has been preparing for it and stress is not an issue. The Northampton fighter, who fought in Las Vegas and made headlines at the O2 in London, knows that relaxation is one of her biggest assets in the fight.

“I headlined the O2 with Mary McGee and took her belt away, showing that I can handle pressure at the highest level. I’m a pretty cold person, so it’s all in my head, Just focus and get into the fight zone. Nothing really excites me — big arenas, big crowds, big events, big fights. I have one job to do out there, and that’s winning,” she says confidently .

“‘I think McCaskill deserves more pressure.”

It’s a fight Cameron has been thinking about since winning the IBO World Championship in 2017, and McCaskill and her team started calling on her.

“I said I was going to fight her. My team at the time just said ignore them. They just wanted to fight because I was new to the game. I listened to my team and she found out I was avoiding her,” Camere Lun said.

McCaskill vacated his super flyweight belt shortly after his fight against Cecilia Braekhus and managed to capture the undisputed welterweight title. She later defended Braekhus’ title.

“Yeah, but one thing I’ve never done is run away from a fight. If anyone wants to fight, I’ll be there to fight,” Cameron said.

“This combat training camp is really different, but it’s fun, but I can’t reveal too much,” the Briton said, alluding to her hard work and preparation against her toughest opponent to date.

“I think her (McAskill) game plan is always the same, but the difference is she’s against people who can push her, and I’m so productive that I don’t think she can fit in,” Card Mellen said. “She can’t send me boxes. She’ll come to me, she’ll try to overwhelm me, but I don’t think that’s going to happen.”

Cameron would like to thank Eddie Hearn and promoter Matchroom Boxing for making this fight possible, highlighting their efforts to lead the way for women’s boxing in Saudi Arabia and now Abu Dhabi, especially in the Middle East.

“I’m looking forward to the fighting experience in Abu Dhabi. I think a lot of fighters would love the opportunity to fight in the Middle East, so I’m grateful for the opportunity. The arena looks incredible and I can’t wait to fight in it.”

In 2019, Cameron publicly announced his parting ways with Barry McGuigan’s team, accusing the former champion boxer of an atmosphere of intimidation and humiliation at his gym and “no time for female boxers”.

She now believes she has a better team.

“I can’t name a better man than Jamie (Moore) and Nigel (Travis),” Cameron said. “I think when you have people like that around, it shows in your career. It gives me confidence in the ring. They are great coaches, making sure I get to the top at the right time and don’t burn out Do your best. I can’t say enough good things about them. Just like people, they treat you like family. Much better now.”

Cameron said her struggles, including not participating in the Olympics, made her more determined.

“Winning this game means everything to me, with all the blood, sweat and tears,” Cameron said. “I will do it for me and for my family and my team. So proud to get to this point. I may have been the one that took the hit, but we did it all together, we went through it, we did it. So many times I felt like I could never do it, it was so hard, I No chance, just feel sorry for myself.

“But now the opportunity comes, and I think I better win it bloody after all the whining, what is it for? It’s here now. I can’t let it slip away.”
