Charles Oliveira travels to Abu Dhabi on Saturday where he plans to end Islam Makhachev’s 10-game winning streak at UFC 280 on October 22 and regain his undisputed UFC lightweight title.
The two contenders will meet in a major Main Event as Oliveira is unbeaten in his last 11 trips to the Octagon. ‘Do Bronx’ was a former UFC lightweight champion Lost half a pound Against Justin Gaethje at UFC 274. Oliveira ended up winning the fight with a first-round surrender, so most people thought he was the champion.
Oliveira and Makhachev talked a lot of trash during their UFC 280 clash. Makhachev is working to become the next UFC lightweight champion, following in the footsteps of his mentor, undefeated UFC Hall of Famer Khabib Nurmagomedov. Oliveira believes he has the all-around game to get Makhachev’s first and only loss since 2015, but the Russian contender believes his wrestling and top pressure will make the “Bronx” disappear.
Oliveira, who has not raced outside the U.S. since 2020, has a head start on this weekend’s trip to Abu Dhabi. The Brazilian took off for UFC 280 and sent some messages along the way. One of them was apparently aimed at Makhachev.
“Calm down, here comes Daddy. Hello Abu Dhabi,” Oliveira wrote Instagram.
“Take off UFC 280,” he later posted.
Oliveira, who turns 33 later this month, is on the cusp of lightweight history. If he can fend off Makhachev and end his violent rise in the stacked lightweight division, “Do Bronx” could be the best 155-pound fighter of all time.
