A mid-season World Cup may have remained FIFA’s worst idea for a long time, but in the case of Chelsea, its timing was almost accidental. With serious injuries, low morale and an uncertain outlook, a month off to reset, recharge and restart may be just what the doctor asked for. Literally.
Head coach Graham Potter has joked that he will be “trying to escape the beautiful November weather in the UK” in search of something better and warmer to pick himself up after a busy few months.and according to telegraphwe’ll do something similar as a team, those who won’t be at the World Cup will have a warm-weather training camp in Abu Dhabi sometime in December, complete at least one friendly – or against a local Opponents, or maybe another club from Europe is doing the same.

In a way, it’s like a proper mid-season break, albeit without a full squad – and again, we might not be as good at the World Cup as we thought not so long ago, given injuries and such.
Hopefully those who have to stay can actually spend their time making the most of it and we’ll emerge from all this folly into a more cohesive outfit.
