On Wednesday, Chesley’s mother, April Simpkins, released a statement about her daughter’s death, including her cause of death. April said there was no pain “deeper” than losing Chesley. That moment “changed forever” the grieving mother.
April’s heartbreaking caption includes photos and video clips of her and Cheslie. A New York Post report on her death said the 30-year-old left a note. April did not confirm or deny the existence of a note.
“Today, our family and friends know privately that the cause of death of my lovely baby girl Chesley has been officially confirmed. As hard as it may be to believe, it is true,” April wrote. “Chesley lives both a public life and a private life. In her private life, she’s been dealing with high-functioning depression, and she’s been keeping it a secret from everyone—including me, her closest confidant,” until shortly before her death.”

“Chesley – To the world, you are a sunshine wrapped in a smile. We talk, FaceTimed or text every day,” April wrote. “You are more than a daughter – you are my best friend. Talking to you is one of the best parts of my day. Your smile and laughter are contagious. I love you with all my heart, baby girl I miss you so much. I know one day we’ll be together again. Until then, rest well.”
