My three year old son likes to fight with me. About anything, really. He used to throw a tantrum on the way home from the store because I wouldn’t let him drive. It doesn’t matter if he’s three years old or his feet can’t reach the gas or brakes. He now claims to be 37 because the fewer people he is older, the happier he seems to be. He often claims that he was never a baby or very small, and I’ve never heard of anyone doing that before. I reminded him that even Jesus was a baby.
My wife said he recently told a woman in the store that he was in high school when she asked his age.My wife said because he was Type 8 Enneagram, All the stories and antics didn’t end there.
My 5 year old son came to me suddenly the other day and asked if he took all my money when I died. I can’t bear to tell them that there is not enough worry at this moment in his life. Then he asked my wife, “Why did God make mosquitoes?” The correct answer had to do with the fall of man, but my wife said it was a good question to ask God himself. Then he quipped: “Since you are going to die first, will you beg him for me?”
My wife and I will have our third boy sometime in October, which is a bit nerve-racking because it has so much responsibility and work. I don’t always do my best as a parent, but I never lack love for my children. My parents have done a great job of providing and generously helping me. How can I do less for my kids? I can’t imagine life without them and my prayers are always for parents who have lost a child. I don’t understand, but my heart really hurts for them.
The John Locke Foundation says it envisions a country with strong families.This is probably the most important word “Rock’s Vision” section on the website. After all, a strong family is a necessary condition for a healthy society.
“The family is the source of all spiritual and moral influence,” declared the famous abolitionist Frederick Douglass.
There is no point in arguing for a free society without a strong family. It’s akin to advertising motorcycle safety while riding without a helmet.
If the family is in disarray, this will automatically mean a greater concentration of state power. Vulnerable households are more dependent on the government. This is why statists and Marxists like to break up families. It tears apart the largest buffer zone between individuals and nations. When the moral quality of the family declines, so does our political situation.
“Family is humanity’s natural defense against utopianism,” declares American Enterprise Institute scholar Michael Novak (1933-2017).
I thank my children every day. I don’t understand a society that can throw away the lives of innocents among us. Children are the greatest blessing you can have, and only inconvenience is when you put your ego first.
The home is where children receive their greatest moral education and where parents are sanctified. I am better today because of my kids. I keep learning more about how to shape grace and forgiveness.I saw Parable of the Prodigal Son in a new way. The added bonus is that I am constantly entertained and I laugh at all the absurdities every day. At the same time, I am constantly reminded that raising my children is the most important occupation and ministry of my life.
As a society, we cannot go beyond the family as the most basic social structure of a healthy community and nation. Relying on the market or even the constitution alone will never be enough to ensure our freedoms and rights.
The renewal of a truly healthy society begins and begins with the family. We should not lose sight of this simple fact as we see this family being attacked every day by forces eager to destroy it.
