The Asian Cup itself is a predecessor T20 World Cup. The national team will travel to Geelong for the opening round of that game, where they will face Sri Lanka, the Netherlands and Namibia.

And, for the first time, the country’s leading players will join the gilded stars of the world game in the home T20 league, when International League T20 Launched in January.

“This is an important moment for Emirates cricket,” said Suri, the national team opener.

“There’s no question that everyone knows this is what we’ve been waiting for for the past five or six years.

“All players have a chance, the key is to be at the top at the right time. That’s what these guys want to do.

“We wanted to show some performances that we could be proud of.”

Back in 2020, Suri was the leading scorer when the UAE secured a place in an Asian Cup qualifier at a regional tournament in Muscat.

Muscat has also provided fond memories for the national team since the return of the sport.

they are there Locking in the progress of the T20 World Cup earlier this year.

“Since we got the qualifiers in 2020, we’ve won almost every series in Muscat so far,” Suri said.

“It feels good to be back in Muscat. We have great memories there, the players played well there, but we still need to step up.

“We know there are some things we have to work on individually, but also as a team.”

Suri hopes the good atmosphere created by a return to Al Amerat will help lift the spirits of Scotland after a difficult time in the Over-50s.

The national team lost three Cricket World Cup League 2 matches against Scotland and the United States in Aberdeen last week before seeing the last one given up due to rain.

That meant they were embroiled in a battle for third place against the United States and Namibia when they had hopes of a top spot.

The tour did offer some upbeat news, especially with the promising debuts of Aryan Lakra and Sabir Ali.

“These are different situations,” Suri said of the challenges facing Scotland.

“We have been [ODI cricket] Yes, but not as far from home as in the conditions we are familiar with.

“We would have liked to win a few games to bring that confidence into the Asian Cup qualifiers, but that didn’t happen.

“We have to do what we can. The newcomers have come in, Aryan has done well and several bowlers have done well.

“You have to take a positive attitude and keep going. It’s been a few bad games, but we’re still a very good team. I’m sure this side will keep going.”
