The Indian Orthodox Youth Ministry will launch initiatives to support the unemployed and inspire new generations to create a better future for everyone.
A WhatsApp group will feature job reminders, inspirational talks from spiritual and community leaders, and intellectuals at the Gulf Orthodox Youth Conference on December 31 and January 1 at St. highlights.
The annual event will be organized by the Al Ain chapter of the Orthodox Christian Youth Movement (OCYM), a spiritual movement of the Orthodox Syrian Church of Malankala (Indian Orthodox Church).
“We are eager to start 2023 by offering hope and optimism to young people. The meeting will bring together leaders from the GCC countries and from the About 350 representatives from other units of OCYM.
As the UAE steps into recovery mode from the pandemic, the theme of this year’s conference is aptly titled: “Out of the Ark”.
Benson Baby, OCYM UAE Regional Secretary, noted: “The theme was chosen to encourage today’s youth not to limit themselves to human virtues alone, but to protect the world as a whole in the post-Covid-19 period.”
Free “Cells at Work”
A WhatsApp “workgroup” group will be launched, which individuals can join for free. Job alerts include job opportunities in UAE and GCC countries.
“It will be free to register. Individuals will be able to find jobs based on their qualifications,” said Mamman Mathai, a member of OCYM’s advisory board.
Areas of focus for the conference will be youth empowerment, job creation, combating the threat of substance abuse, and finding ways to live a spiritual life, among others.
OCYM’s GCC Secretary, Philip N Thomas, emphasized that OCYM has been working in several areas of social intervention.
“This is the first meeting since the pandemic began. In the new year, we try to emphasize that young people must leave the safety and luxury of their arks to protect the unemployed, help the marginalized, and protect the world.”
OCYM President and Metropolitan of Kottayam Kunnamkulam, Kerala, Dr. Geevarghese Mar Yulios, and OCYM Secretary General, Fr. Aji K Thomas, will chair the two-day conference.
Key speakers included Dr GS Pradeep, Fr Bobby Jose Kattikad and Swami Aksharatit of BAPS Hindu Mandir, among others. Prayer meetings will be held on both days to pray for a safe and prosperous new year.
“As many as 14 committees are preparing for the meeting, led by Lincoln Alex, SDOC treasurer, Shaji Mathew, SDOC secretary, and Rajesh Samuel, general convener of the Gulf Orthodox Youth Conference,” added Bancy Tharakan (media convener).
