Salisbury, MD – The relationship between the City of Salisbury and the Salisbury Arts and Entertainment District will take a new direction later this year.

Last year, the City of Salisbury established the Arts, Commerce and Culture Department (ABCD) to oversee all planning and production of the city’s large community events, including the Maryland Folk Festival. For the past seven years, the city has provided funding to the Salisbury Arts and Entertainment District, hiring an executive director to oversee the planning and execution of events in downtown Salisbury. These events include Third Friday, the Friday Night Live concert series and the New Year’s Eve Ball.

With the existing contract between the City of Salisbury and the Salisbury Arts and Entertainment District coming to an end, the two organizations have reportedly reached a mutual decision to move event operations to Salisbury city. With the development of the ABCD over the last year, the City now has the capacity to manage these events. The Salisbury Arts and Entertainment District will remain an independent organization from the City Council, but the ABCD will assume responsibilities related to the Arts and Entertainment District designation.

With the funding provided to the Arts and Entertainment District, the city said it plans to hire an events coordinator, a position first offered to Salisbury Arts and Entertainment District executive director Jamie Heater. .

“The Salisbury Arts and Entertainment District has always had a great relationship with the City of Salisbury,” Heater said. “Our shared goals are to bring arts and entertainment to this community, and I know we will continue to work together to achieve those goals.”

“We are grateful for our partnership with the Salisbury Arts and Entertainment District over the years and look forward to supporting their future initiatives,” Mayor Jack Heath said. “New York City will continue to host these major events to the high standards our community expects, and nothing will change from the great programming we know and love.”

The shift will take effect on July 1.
