- Multidisciplinary research unit-led diagnostic research targets major regional diseases and improves overall population health
Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates: The Cleveland Abu Dhabi Clinic, part of M42, is setting research benchmarks through leading breakthrough observational and interventional studies focused on diagnosis, prevention and treatment. The research department at the Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi is comprised of dedicated multidisciplinary research teams conducting studies aimed at reducing the impact of major diseases on community health. The department has more than 200 active studies, 60 of which are starting in 2022. Research on key topics such as digestive disorders, neurological disorders and heart disease is sometimes conducted in collaboration with various other local and regional institutions.
Under the Abu Dhabi Department of Health’s efforts to improve overall healthcare for the people of the UAE, the hospital aims to use the research as part of its wider efforts, working with other partners to advance treatment options in the UAE and the GCC region as well as Abu Dhabi stakeholders.
Three ongoing studies focusing on liver health, breast cancer and obesity. All three studies were dedicated to the UAE population and used genome-based approaches, focusing on genomic or DNA data. With this approach, research results can be compared and validated to accelerate the development of new treatments and personalized healthcare solutions for these diseases. In collaboration with Khalifa University, the second study explores obesity and bariatric surgery and is the first genetic study of metabolic disease.
Finally, a pilot study of breast cancer health awareness among women in the UAE aimed to identify disease patterns in the local population and raise awareness of the need for regular mammograms.
All three studies aim to strengthen healthcare in the UAE and were made possible through the participation of numerous study participants.
