“For victims of ischemic stroke, the most common type of stroke, timing is critical. Minutes. Usually, we aim to perform a so-called nerve thrombectomy, which can Dissolving clots in a patient’s brain. This new system makes the process faster and more precise, which will save lives,” said Dr. Khalil Zahra, director of neurointerventional surgery at the hospital’s Institute of Neurology.

In traditional stroke intervention, the patient starts with a CT scan, and the surgeon manually reviews the imaging before manipulating it to dissolve the blood clot. This highly complex system will ultimately help us provide stroke patients The best care and the best chance of recovery in the world,” said Dr. Zahra.

ARTIS Icono is one of many technological innovations that CCAD (recently named the top smart hospital in the region by Newsweek) is using to bring patient care into the future.

The new system will be installed at the Institute of Neurology’s Neurovascular Medicine Program and Stroke Center, which provides patients with stroke and other cerebrovascular diseases a full range of the latest diagnostic and treatment options.

In honor of World Stroke Day on October 29, CCAD is also encouraging the community to use the acronym FAST to learn about the signs of a stroke—because a few minutes can save lives: drooping face, arm weakness, speech difficulties, time to call 998.
