Columbia Records Partners with Kakao Entertainment America for K-Pop’s IVE – Variety

The partnership is expected to boost IVE’s presence in the North American market, with Sony Music’s subsidiary Columbia supporting their upcoming album “I’ve IVE,” which will be released on April 10th.

Columbia will assist with global music distribution, local marketing and promotion of the album, beginning with the album pre-release of the single “Kitsch,” which will be released on March 27.

IVE is produced by Starship Entertainment, a subsidiary of Kakao Entertainment.

Columbia’s roster includes many popular artists, including Harry Styles, Lil Nas X, Miley Cyrus and Beyoncé.

“This partnership aims to expand Kakao Entertainment’s music distribution network and enhance its presence in the global market by leveraging Columbia Records’ unrivaled expertise in the North American music business,” Kakao said in a statement released Friday morning in South Korea. wrote.

Since debuting in 2021, IVE has steadily become one of K-pop’s rising stars, garnering numerous accolades and millions with three consecutive hit singles — “Eleven,” “Love Diving” and “After Like It” album sold. “I’ve ive” is their first full-length album.

The move comes shortly after Kakao Entertainment publicly scrambled for control of long-established K-pop company SM Entertainment, which boasts many popular Korean acts including NCT 127 and NCT Dream, aespa, EXO and more.

Kakao Entertainment, a subsidiary of South Korean tech giant Kakao, has grown in recent years, broadening its reach and publicly stating its intention to focus more on a global audience, as the influence of Korean pop culture spreads internationally through the success of recent movies, TV shows Extended, and musical performances.

In recent years, both SM and Kakao have worked to creatively expand IP related to K-pop talent. SM recently announced that NCT 127 will appear in the graphic novel Infinity.

Along with IVE, talents from various Kakao Entertainment subsidiaries are also expected to set their sights on the international market. Other popular K-pop groups, including Monsta X and IU, are also under Kakao.
