Comedians Mo Amer and Maz Jobrani to perform in Abu Dhabi

The two comedians, known for bringing the Middle Eastern experience to American stand-up shows, will perform their unique brand of watch comedy at the Etihad Arena on Yas Island on March 4.

Amer is best known for his Netflix comedy specials Moamel: The Wanderer, and a third of the comedy trio Ala Amuses Me. He is also the creator and star of the Netflix comedy series, Mo. The show focuses on the absurdities of the immigration process in the United States and is set against the backdrop of Amer’s life as a Palestinian growing up in Houston, Texas.

Born in Kuwait, Amer fled to the United States with his family in 1990, eventually obtaining U.S. citizenship in 2009. Mo Inspired by Amer’s experiences in the United States, he was busy raising his family while awaiting news of his asylum application.

He also starred alongside Dwayne Johnson in the DC movie Black Adam.

Jobrani was a founding member and driving force of the world famous The Axis of Evil Comedy Tour.

His 2017 Netflix comedy special, migrant, Follow immigrant life in Trump-era America. 2021, his comedy special Pandemic Warrior Shot in Dubai, available on Apple TV+.

Chobrani has appeared on several popular TV shows, including Grey’s Anatomy, and is a best-selling author. He was born in Tehran and moved to the United States with his family when he was 6 years old.

An academically gifted student, he studied to be a lawyer, but envisioned himself on stage as a comedian and actor.

“The plan is to be a lawyer and then maybe some kind of professor,” he told National Ahead of his exhibition at the Dubai World Trade Centre in May 2021.

“Sometimes I would drive to work or school and my brain would daydream and I wasn’t really invested in what I was doing.

“It wasn’t until I was in my 20s that I decided to actually do it.”

The upcoming show at the Etihad Arena is presented by Al Kalema Productions in association with the Ministry of Culture and Tourism (Abu Dhabi and Yas Island).
