Temporary exhibitions evoke memories of 17th and 18th century France, tracing the origins of Parisian museums back to the time when the public first came into contact with French royal collections.

It explores how the collections of Versailles were displayed in gardens, state apartments and the private apartments of kings, then explores how the Louvre in Paris was transformed into a hotbed of creative energy in the 18th century – in 1793 the museum itself was launched in 1793 Before the French Revolution.

From Louvre to Louvre Focuses on the way the Louvre in Paris is known as a “museum of the world”, collecting works from around the world in the 19th century. The model was later embodied by the Louvre Abu Dhabi, whose director Manuel Rabat described it as the first general-purpose museum in the Arab world.
As the exhibition kicks off, Rabat said: “We are proud to start with this gem – which showcases the creation of the Louvre in Paris as a cosmopolitan museum.
“The Louvre in Paris is a milestone in France’s transformation, and we hope that the Louvre Abu Dhabi will achieve the same.”
