Comfortable food with authentic flavor…
There are so many restaurants for Expo 2020 Dubai, which can be difficult to choose from a wide variety of cuisines. When we heard about D-ream, the team behind the concepts of Coya, Amazonico and Zuma opened a restaurant at the Expo, and Kojaki jumped to the top of our list.
This restaurant describes itself as a Korean with the essence of Japan, because the chef is a native Korean who has cooked Japanese cuisine for decades. You might want to find this venue near the Korean Pavilion, but it’s actually closer to the opportunity zone.
Kojaki is a standalone structure on the first floor with an open kitchen facing the central bench seating area and several single tables. The walls highlight Korean culture through synchronously hung painted fabrics, and large hanging lights create an authentic street feel.
The one-page menu includes many hot and cold appetizers, as well as grilled main dishes and street snacks. We started with yukhoe (70 dirhams), which consists of chopped marinated beef tartare, Korean pears and slow-boiled egg yolks. We beat the eggs and mixed the beef to add all the deliciousness.
Flavor obviously plays an important role in this kitchen, because the next dish contains a lot of flavor. Chamchi hye muchim (Dhs80) features small pieces of tuna sashimi, the texture is reminiscent of watermelon, and is filled with cho-jang chili sauce.
When it comes to side dishes, lobster macaroni and cheese (Dh190) are a must. In a pot, the bubbling pasta is topped with crispy crust and chives. Beneath the outer layer is a pasta shell fully cooked in a rich cheese sauce.
The service is fast and friendly, and our server will quickly recommend his personal favorites when prompted. Kojaki also offers a series of unusual cocktails for those who are curious.
