The man, Dereck Cummings, 31, was found shot dead on Caper Lane near the Carrington Park Condominiums early Saturday morning, police said.
Cummings’ mother, Tuwanan Ware, described him as the life force of the party and someone who wanted to be the center of attention.
That fact was attested to by Sunday’s vigil, where dozens gathered around candles and photographs to celebrate his life.

As candles flickered and people gathered in an Orlando parking lot, their words, emotions and hearts focused on a young man they had lost too soon.
“We’re trying to be the best we can be in this situation,” Weir said.

Police were called to the Carrington Park apartment near Howell Branch Road about 5.30am. When police arrived, they found Cummings lying on the ground.
Cummings is better known in the community as local rapper Antwaun Miles. Channel 9 interviewed Cummings in 2016 as he spoke out against violence in the community following the deaths of two of his friends.

His social media accounts also show that in recent years he has transformed into an entertainment promoter of parties and other events.
Neighbors said Cummings was a quiet man who lived with his girlfriend. Will said Cummings is a father of four, three boys and a girl, with a baby boy on the way.
Neighbors like Brian Burton said they were angry to hear he had been shot.

“They gotta stop the violence, man,” Burton said. “It was unnecessary; he was a family man. Our prayers are with his family, friends and all. Antwan is a good man.”
Ware told Channel 9 the family was all about the good times, but she knew there would be holes in their lives, especially for the children.
Cummings’ friends and family now hope police will find out who took his life and why they did it.
Police believe the shooting was an argument between two known individuals, but they have not said what the disagreement was or if there were any suspects.
“They took playful protectors, stupid fathers (and) sons,” Weil said. “This thing really hurts the community.”
