Costner’s ‘Yellowstone’ tops entertainment of the week again

“Yellowstone Parkwas the second highest-rated entertainment show in the two weeks the fifth season aired, and one of only two shows to average more than 7 million viewers.

The new western starring Kevin Costner averaged 8.832 million total viewers across the Paramount Network and CMT, according to live-plus-day data released Tuesday by Nielsen, a prime viewership between Nov. 14 and Sunday. No. 6 in timed broadcast and cable programming.

CBS crime drama “The FBI” was No. 2 in entertainment and No. 7 overall, with an average viewership of 7.313 million.

NBC’s “Sunday Night Football” was the most-watched program for the 10th time in its 11 games, with the Kansas City Chiefs’ 30-27 win over the Los Angeles Chargers averaging 17.886 million viewers in the season’s Game No. 6 on Sunday Night Football.

The only time “Sunday Night Football” didn’t lead the ratings was during the week of Nov. 7-13, when it drew the second-smallest viewership of the season at 15.843 million viewers as the San Francisco 49ers beat the Chargers 22-16 The team finished second behind Fox’s seven-minute NFL postgame show, which averaged 18.132 million viewers.

CBS Newsmagazine “60 Minutes” is the eighth most-watched non-sports show in the nine-week 2022-23 primetime TV season with an average viewership of 9.95 million, second only to “Sunday Night” for this week’s ranking Fourth Football,” ESPN’s “Monday Night Football” and the 10-minute “Sunday Night Football” pre-kickoff show.

The audience was the third-largest on the “60 Minutes” season. Before that, the network’s afternoon NFL coverage shifted to primetime in the Eastern and Central time zones, averaging 24.09 million viewers. Turnover is not considered a separate program but is included in the network’s weekly average.

The only time “60 Minutes” wasn’t the top-rated non-sports show this season was during the week of Nov. 7-13, when the season premiere of “Yellowstone” aired on seven of Paramount’s global cable networks. The average number of viewers was 12.493 million.

With CBS rerunning “Young Sheldon,” “Neighbors” became the top-rated comedy for the second time this season with an average viewership of 5.238 million, 19th for the week and 14th among non-sports shows .

CBS drama “Fire Nation” was the top-rated new series for the fourth time in its six episodes with an average viewership of 5.469 million, ranking 16th for the week and 12th among non-sports programming.

CBS cop drama “Blue Bloods” was the sixth most-watched program to start at 10 p.m. in its six-episode season, with an average viewership of 5.818 million and 13th place for the week among non-sports programs Ranked 9th.

The combination of “Sunday Night Football” and its three “Chicago” series made NBC the most-watched network for the seventh time this season, with an average viewership of 5.53 million. The only weeks that NBC didn’t win this season were when Fox aired coverage of the World Series.

NBC’s most-watched non-NFL program was “Chicago Fire,” with an average viewership of 6.898 million, eighth in the week’s ratings and fourth among non-sports shows. “Chicago Med,” ahead of “Chicago Fire,” finished ninth and fifth in the non-sports category, with an average viewership of 6.727 million.

After “Chicago Fire,” “Chicago Police Department” was No. 18 for the week, No. 13 among non-sports shows and No. 2 among shows starting at 10 p.m. with an average viewership of 5.386 million.

CBS came in second with an average viewership of 5.32 million. ABC was third among broadcast networks and fourth overall behind ESPN with an average of 2.82 million.

ABC’s most-watched program, “America’s Funniest Home Video,” was No. 34 for the week on broadcast and cable and No. 28 among non-sports programs, with an average viewership of 4.467 million.

NBC, CBS and ABC each air 22 hours of primetime programming.

Fox’s 16-hour primetime show averaged 2.49 million viewers. The procedural drama “9-1-1” was Fox’s highest-rated non-sports show for the seventh time in eight episodes of the season, with an average viewership of 4.939 million and a week-end ranking of 25th in No. 20 in non-sports programming.

The CW averages 500,000 viewers during its 14-hour programming. Crime drama Walker was the most-watched show for the fourth time in seven weeks, with an average viewership of 795,000 and a 128th-broadcast rating. Its overall ranking is not available.

The top 20 primetime shows include two NFL games; three NFL pregame shows; “60 Minutes”; “Yellowstone”; seven CBS scripted shows; three NBC “Chicago” series and its singing two episodes of the contest “The Voice”; and “Hannity,” Fox News Channel’s political talk show last Tuesday, which reported on former President Donald Trump’s announcement that he would seek re-election.

“Monday Night Football” and Saturday Night College Football made ESPN the most-watched cable network for the third time in four weeks, sixth in eight weeks and ninth in 12 weeks, averaging 3.4 million viewers. Fox News came in second with an average viewership of 2.358 million, and Hallmark was third with an average of 1.391 million viewers.

MSNBC is another cable network with an average prime-time audience of more than 1 million viewers, with an average viewership of 1.272 million.

The week’s most-watched cable show was ESPN’s “Monday Night Football,” which aired on Nov. 14, with an average viewership of 12.771 million. The Washington Commanders won by a score of 32-21, ending the Philadelphia Eagles’ unbeaten run for the season in second place.

Cable Top 20 includes “Monday Night Football” and its 14-minute opening show; “Yellowstone”; ESPN’s coverage of Saturday’s South Carolina-Tennessee college football game; 12 Fox News Channel weekend night political talk shows (5 episodes each of “Tucker Carlson Tonight” and “Hannity,” plus two episodes of “The Ingraham Angle”); Premiere of Paramount + Sylvester Stallone crime drama “The King of Tulsa” The Rachel Maddow Show, which airs on the Paramount Network; MSNBC news and opinion program “The Rachel Maddow Show”; Hallmark Channel’s film “My Christmas Dream”; 360,” which includes Trump’s statement.

The fifth season of “The Crown” was Netflix’s most-watched show for the second week in a row, with viewers totaling 84.31 million hours for its 10-episode first week, down 21.5% from 107.39 million hours the week before, according to Data released by streaming services, they are available for five days.

For the 15th consecutive week and the 153rd time in 155 weeks, Univision was the most-watched Spanish-language network with an average viewership of 1.39 million. Telemundo came in second with an average of 770,000, followed by UniMas (490,000), Estrella TV (70,000) and Azteca America (50,000).

ABC’s “David Muir’s World News Tonight” was the 154th most-watched evening news show in 155 weeks and 206th in 208 weeks, with an average viewership of 8.908 million. “Lester Holt’s NBC Nightly News” came in second with an average of 7.259 million.

“Norah O’Donnell’s CBS Evening News” came in third with an average viewership of 5.315 million.
