Girl dies after truck crash at North Carolina holiday parade
A girl attending the event was killed when a vehicle towing a North Carolina holiday parade float crashed, police said. The driver who lost control of the vehicle and hit the child was charged with reckless driving and other violations, according to a news release from the Raleigh Police Department. Witnesses told WTVD-TV that people attending a Christmas parade in Raleigh heard the truck driver screaming that he lost control of the vehicle and was unable to stop it before crashing. No one else in the parade was injured in the collision.

Buffalo nears statewide snowfall record, with more to come

Hundreds of protesters in Iran blinded by metal and rubber bullets
Protesters on motorcycles were speeding towards a demonstration in Tehran when an Iranian security official fired rubber bullets. Protesters said the bullet hit his left eye. He is one of hundreds of victims of serious eye injuries inflicted by Iranian security forces since mid-September, according to doctors and medical agencies. Anti-government protests swept the country that month, sparking a violent crackdown. One of the most irreversible effects of the repression was the blindness of those involved. Dozens of protesters were taken to hospital with their eyes shattered by metal projectiles and rubber bullets fired by security forces to disperse the crowd.
Fireballs flash over Ontario and parts of US
The fireball soaring over Ontario, Canada, early Saturday was the sixth object detected in space before hitting Earth, the European Space Agency said. The Minor Planet Center, which tracks objects in our solar system, said the meteor entered Earth’s atmosphere over Brantford, Ontario, at 3:27 a.m. ET. It was detected in images taken by the Mount Lemmon survey near Tucson, Arizona. Mike Hankey, operations manager for the American Meteor Society, monitors the sky with a camera in Maine. As of Saturday afternoon, the group had received 33 reports of fireballs from people in Maryland, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Ontario.
