Couple married for 80 years dies holding hands hours apart

[ad_1]

The 100-year-old couple were born just 10 days apart in July 1922.

Hubert and June Malicote, both 100 years old, died holding hands.

The two met at the Church of God in Hamilton, Ohio in 1941 and tied the knot two years later.

Hubert first died in a hospice on November 30, and his heartbroken wife died 20 hours later on December 1. The couple were also born in July 1922, just 10 days apart.

His death notice read: “Hubert passed away just hours earlier than June, marking the end of their 81-year love story.”

The couple celebrated Thanksgiving with a pizza party for the whole family the day before the holiday.

That night, Joan became ill and her daughter Jo (70) took her to a hospice.

Hubert visited him the day after Thanksgiving, and his son Sam, 76, said he was “broken” and “crashed.”

He was also taken to a hospice, where he shared a room with his wife, before they both lost consciousness. Their hands were then put together and neither regained consciousness.

Hubert died at 9.15pm and June at 5.40pm the following day.

Sam said his dad died of a “broken heart”, but he was also relieved they died together.

Hubert was born on July 23, 1922, in Jackson County, Kentucky. After attending school in Indiana, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1942 and served on a submarine at Pearl Harbor during World War II.

Joan was born in Chavez, Kentucky on July 13, 1922, and moved to Hamilton.

She served her church for many years as a Sunday School teacher and choir director. She also worked at the Hamilton factory, making torpedo parts during World War II.

Hubert and Joan were laid to rest on December 8 at a joint funeral at the church where they met 80 years ago.

The couple are survived by their three children, Sam, Joe and Teresa, their daughter-in-law Sue and two sons-in-law, Dale and Jim, as well as their seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
