Covid-19: As virus cases surge, Chinese cities test millions of people-News

[ad_1]

China reported 75 new coronavirus cases on Sunday, of which 53 were spread locally.

As health authorities worked to contain the country’s most widespread coronavirus outbreak in months on Sunday, Chinese cities carried out large-scale tests on millions of people and imposed new travel restrictions.

China reported 75 new coronavirus cases on Sunday, 53 of which were spread locally. According to reports, a cluster related to the eastern airport has now spread to more than 20 cities and more than a dozen provinces.

After China successfully stifled the pandemic in China to a large extent last year, this outbreak is the largest outbreak that China has suffered in a few months.

After a rapidly spreading variant of Delta broke out at Nanjing Airport in eastern Jiangsu Province in July, this record was put in danger.

Authorities have conducted three rounds of testing for the city’s 9.2 million residents and placed hundreds of thousands of people under lockdown to curb Beijing’s blaming of the epidemic on the highly contagious delta virus and the peak tourist season.

They also scrambled to track more than 5,000 people across the country who participated in the theater festival in Zhangjiajie City, Hunan Province. Zhangjiajie City blocked all 1.5 million residents and closed all tourist attractions after four tourists tested positive.

Health officials said that the small-scale outbreak in Zhangjiajie was caused by travelers from Nanjing and had spread the disease to more than 20 cities.

Virologist Zhong Nanshan told reporters on Saturday: “Zhangjiajie has now become a new zero for the spread of the epidemic in China.”

“When tracing close contacts of the Delta variant, we must expand the network.”

The local health bureau said that Beijing reported three cases of locally transmitted infections on Sunday-a family living in the suburbs of the Chinese capital returned from Zhangjiajie.

Beijing has severed all rail, bus and air links with areas where coronavirus cases have been detected.

The Chinese capital also closed its doors to tourists during the peak summer vacation period, allowing only “basic tourists” who tested negative for nucleic acid to enter.

Authorities said new cases were also reported on Sunday in Hainan Island, another popular tourist destination, as well as in Ningxia and Shandong provinces.

After two cleaners at a hospital treating coronavirus patients from abroad tested positive, the country is also fighting a separate increase in flooding cases in Zhengzhou City, Henan Province.

Thirty cases of local transmission have been detected, and the authorities ordered testing of all 10 million residents on Sunday. The head of the city’s health committee was also fired.

After reports that the latest batch of infected people had been vaccinated, health officials said it was “normal” and emphasized the importance of vaccination and strict measures.

Feng Zijian, a virologist at the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention, said: “The protective effect of the new crown vaccine on the Delta variant may have declined, but the current vaccine still has a good preventive and protective effect on the Delta variant.”

Beijing’s National Health Commission (NHC) said that as of Saturday, more than 1.65 billion doses of vaccine had been vaccinated across the country. It does not provide figures on how many people have been fully vaccinated.
