Covid-19: Malaysia relaxes restrictions on fully vaccinated people-News

[ad_1]

The lockdown since June has closed thousands of businesses and restricted most people’s travel to the area where they live.

The Prime Minister of Malaysia said on Sunday that Malaysia will relax coronavirus restrictions on fully vaccinated people in the states that account for about half of the country.

The measure, effective from Tuesday, will allow millions of people to cross regional borders, engage in personal outdoor sports and dine at restaurants in eight states where cases have fallen and vaccination rates are promising.

The lockdown since June has closed thousands of businesses and restricted most people’s travel to the areas where they live, although economic sectors have gradually been allowed to open.

“More and more people are receiving complete vaccination… the burden on the public health system will be reduced,” Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin said in a televised speech.

“More economic and social sectors can be opened up in stages, and we can get out of this pandemic (in) more orderly and safer (in a way).”

In the commercial heartland of the capital Kuala Lumpur and Selangor, there are thousands of new infections every day, and these restrictions will not be lifted.

However, the government also announced the relaxation of restrictions on double thorn residents regardless of their state, such as home quarantine for 14 days after returning to the country, and allowances for married couples to meet their spouses across state boundaries.

Despite the initial slow launch, the Southeast Asian country distributes more than 400,000 vaccines every day, making it one of the fastest vaccines in the region.

Approximately 8.25 million people-a quarter of the country’s 33 million people-have received the double dose because 23.6 million injections have been given to date.

The move comes as Malaysia is experiencing its worst virus wave to date, with an average of nearly 20,000 infections and hundreds of deaths every day.

It reported a record of 360 deaths every day on Sunday, bringing the death toll to 10,749.
