Covid-19: More than 700,000 deaths from the virus in the United States-News

[ad_1]

According to data from Johns Hopkins University, the number of deaths caused by Covid-19 in the United States on Friday exceeded 700,000, and the death toll is roughly equivalent to the population of Washington, the capital of the country.

According to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, in a country where 55.7% of the population is now vaccinated, an average of more than 1,000 people die every day.

After being severely criticized for its early response to the pandemic, the United States has since organized the world’s most effective vaccine promotion campaign.

But it still found that it had the largest number of deaths in the world, far exceeding other front-runners such as Brazil and India, and was facing a comeback due to the prominence of the highly contagious Delta variant.

Although the latest global coronavirus wave peaked in late August, the virus is still spreading rapidly, especially in the United States.

The vaccination campaign launched by the US authorities in December — peaked in April, sometimes with more than 4 million injections per day — has also slowed sharply.

Masking is still a political issue in most parts of the country, causing divisions among many Americans. Some Republican governors, such as those of Texas and Florida, have tried to prohibit mandatory face masks in their states on the grounds of personal freedom.

On the other hand, the Democratic State of California announced on Friday that all students must be vaccinated against Covid.

In Washington, hundreds of thousands of white flags fluttered on the grass on the National Mall not far from the White House, as a melancholy reminder of those who died of COVID-19 in the United States.

According to AFP statistics from official sources, since the outbreak in China in December 2019, nearly 4.8 million people have died globally.
