Covid-19: The Philippines bans travelers from Malaysia and Thailand to curb the spread of Delta mutation-News

A spokesperson for the President of the Philippines said on Friday (July 23) that the Philippines will ban travelers from Malaysia and Thailand and strengthen restrictions on the Manila area to prevent the spread of the infectious delta variant of the coronavirus.

Presidential spokesman Harry Roque said in a national speech that travel restrictions will take effect on Sunday and will last until the end of July.

“This action was taken to prevent the further spread of Covid-19 variants in the Philippines and community spread,” said Rock.

The Philippines previously banned travelers from eight countries, including Indonesia and India.

To prevent the Delta virus from spreading further in the country, President Rodrigo Duterte has placed the capital region, 16 cities with more than 13 million people, and four provinces under stricter coronavirus control Until the end of July.

Indoor sports and conference venues, indoor tourist attractions and gymnasiums are prohibited from operating, while reducing the operating capacity of indoor and outdoor catering.

The Philippines has recorded 47 cases of Delta variants, of which 8 are active and 3 have died.

With more than 1.53 million infected people and nearly 27,000 deaths, the Philippines is the country with the second highest number of coronavirus cases and casualties in Southeast Asia, after Indonesia.
