Covid: Daily cases in the UAE drop by 25%-News

[ad_1]

Medical experts say that increased public awareness, reduced hesitation on the Covid vaccine, and a surge in RT-PCR screening have caused the number of new infections this month to drop by nearly 25% compared to June.

After the number of cases reached a two-month high of more than 60,000 in June, there is concern that the number of positive cases will rise as the infectious Delta variant is tested. However, effective strategies and cautious public response can help control the situation.

The average daily cases dropped from 2,000 in June to 1,500 so far this month. On the fourth day after the Eid al-Adha public holiday, 1,527 cases were reported on Wednesday, July 28, one month after the authorities announced the Delta strain.

Dr. Somansu Basu, a microbiologist and infection control chairman at Al Ain NMC Specialty Hospital, pointed out that the “significant decline” in cases was due to strict preventive measures.

“The joint efforts of the health authorities and the public to adhere to these measures are the core reason for the control of transmission. A well-monitored vaccination plan and the variety of vaccines available not only help reduce the number of cases, but also reduce the severity of the infection.”

Dr. Ponnusamy Tamilvendan, an internal medicine expert at Medeor Hospital in Dubai, emphasized that the authorities have developed a “flexible strategy” to adapt to changing conditions, which has allowed the UAE to embark on a path to recovery. “The sharp decline in cases since June can be attributed to a variety of reasons, including public compliance with safety measures. Publicity campaigns ensure that people take preventive measures seriously. In this struggle, national campaigns are an effective tool. The number of new cases has increased dramatically. The decline may be an indicator of the benefits of a strong vaccination-driven.”

Dr. Tamilvendan said that the public awareness campaign has increased people’s willingness to get vaccinated. “Vaccine hesitation seems to have diminished, and now many people are coming forward.”

Dr. Mohammed Arif, Department of Internal Medicine (specialist) at Mankhur Aster Hospital, emphasized that travel restrictions imposed during the holidays are another factor in the plunge in the number of cases.

“Travel restrictions play an important role in reducing cases. Banning flights from multiple countries and enacting strict travel guidelines has reduced the number of cases during the festive month. New travel guidelines from Dubai to Abu Dhabi (and vice versa) also reduce infections And communication has made a significant contribution.”

Doctors pointed out that the number of people screened and seeking vaccines has surged in the past few weeks.

Dr. Basu said: “Since the emergence of the Delta virus, RT-PCR testing has increased. The increase in testing and system quarantine and quarantine protocols has helped control the spread. The NMC Specialist Hospital in Al Ain conducted an average of 1,454 Covid-19 tests per day in May. In June and July, so far, the average daily test has exceeded 1,750.”

Dr. Tamilvendan added: “With the increase in tourism and economic activity, it seems to have returned to normal. However, the pandemic is not over yet, and we as a community must continue to be vigilant to reduce transmission.”
