Adilatul Salmiah Abdullah, a Malaysian expatriate in Abu Dhabi, said: “We are very pleased to hear this news. So after these rules come into effect, my family and I will no longer cross the border.”
The resident added: “Although the cost of PCR testing has been reduced, the idea does not seem to be realistic. So, the last time we visited Dubai was in 2020-and it is also true, because we have to redeem vouchers, otherwise it will be Will expire.”
Adilatul said her husband was particularly happy with the news. “He worked for Adnoc and bought tickets for Expo 2020 because his company offers tickets at discounted prices. Now, we are free to travel to Dubai many times for large events and for other reasons.”
Due to testing requirements, some families even moved their residences from Abu Dhabi to Dubai-such as Indian expats Tamara Syed and Rizwan Taj.
Rizwan is an aviation expert and pilot trainer for Dubai Airways. His wife Tamara works as a marketing manager in a law firm in Dubai and lived in Abu Dhabi with his family in the past. Therefore, commuting to Dubai is a very common thing.
However, recently, due to a strict PCR testing protocol, the couple decided to move to Dubai. “Continuous PCR testing has become very busy. In the past few months alone, we have performed 15 PCR tests,” Tamara said.
Rizwan pointed out that the couple regretted having to continue to live away from their families because they had already signed a one-year lease. “We must make Dubai our home for the next year, but now that the restrictions have been lifted, we will travel to Abu Dhabi regularly.”
Both Abu Dhabi residents and American expat Naeema Zaki expressed appreciation for the UAE’s handling of the Covid-19 situation. “Living here has always felt safe. Since the pandemic, the UAE has been taking measures to ensure the safety of everyone. They imposed movement restrictions when necessary and relaxed restrictions when appropriate. This news made me feel that everything is back to normal NS.”
