With a week to go before Tempe voters will decide the fate of the Tempe Entertainment District and the Arizona Coyotes Arena, city officials are emphasizing the importance of returning mail-in ballots today.

Those who return ballots by mail should do so on Tuesday, May 9, to ensure they receive them on time for the May 16 election, they said.

There are other options, but they take some time and leg work:

  • Drop off your ballot in a secure Maricopa County drop box no later than May 16.found one location.maricopa.vote.
  • Go in person to an official voting center by 7 p.m. on Election Day. There will be one at the Tempe History Museum at 809 South Street through May 16.Open weekdays 8am-5pm On Election Day open 6am-7pm
  • Take completed ballots to Tempe City Hall at 31 E. Fifth St between 8:00 am and 4:30 pm on weekdays during Election Day. Due to ongoing construction at City Hall, there are several free 10-minute parking spots on the South 5th Street side. Residents can use them to quickly drop off ballots. The entrance to the City Hall is temporarily at the southeast corner of the pyramid. Follow the signs to the drop-off location.

“For the selection of the Tempe Historical Museum, the easiest way is for voters to bring their ballots that they received in the mail,” city officials said in a release.

Those without a ballot should bring acceptable identification, such as an Arizona driver’s license, state-issued ID or tribal ID. The address on the ID must match the voter’s registration address, according to election officials.

The election ballot includes three proposals related to building a recreation area and arena for the Arizona Coyotes.

The development will sit on 46 acres at the northeast corner of Priest Drive and Rio Salado Parkway. In addition to the arena, the project also includes residential units, restaurants, shops and other functions.
