Cricket: England-India 5th test cancelled after COVID outbreak | Coronavirus pandemic news

[ad_1]

After the coronavirus outbreak in the Indian camp, the fifth and final test of the series was cancelled a few hours before the start of the game.

The England and Wales cricket team announced that due to COVID-19 issues in the Indian camp, the fifth test between England and India has been cancelled, just a few hours before the game at Old Trafford is about to start.

“After continuing the dialogue with BCCI [Board of Control for Cricket in India], The European Central Bank can confirm that the fifth test between the English and Indian men, which will start today at Old Trafford in the UAE, will be cancelled,” said Friday’s statement.

“Due to concerns about the further increase in the number of COVID cases in the camp, it is regrettable that India cannot send a team.”

The European Central Bank initially stated in its statement that India had abandoned the game, but later withdrew this statement.

India led 2-1 in the final game of the series, but after their physical therapist Yogesh Parmar tested positive for the novel coronavirus, Thursday’s test was questioned.

As a result, the entire tourist group in India was forced to quarantine at the Manchester Hotel and cancelled the last training and mandatory pre-match press conference on Thursday.

Indian coach Ravi Shastri tested positive in the fourth test at the Oval Stadium and has been in quarantine since.

Bowling coach Bharath Arun, defensive coach R Sridhar and main physical therapist Nitin Patel also tested positive.

According to reports, several Indian players are worried about the spread of the virus and are unwilling to participate in the game, which means that India cannot send a team.

The European Central Bank said: “We sincerely apologize to fans and partners for this news. We know that this will cause great disappointment and inconvenience to many people.”
