Cricket: How Namibia sealed one of the biggest impacts of the T20 World Cup | Cricket News

[ad_1]

Namibia, ranked 19th from the bottom, entered the second round of the Super 12 round of the T20 World Cup after shocking Ireland.

The 19th-ranked Namibian cricket team entered the second round of the T20 World Cup for the first time, beating Ireland with a staggering 8 wickets.

They are now in the Super 12 stage, where they will face former champions India and Pakistan, as well as New Zealand, Afghanistan and Scotland.

Namibia coach Pierre De Bruyne revealed on Friday that his team in the shortest 2020 format in World Cup history has only 18 players to choose from in the country.

“We are not an organization with a lot of resources,” de Bruyn said. “I have 18 players in my national team to choose from, and I know what they have invested in the past three years. The effort is rewarded. It sounds like a cliché, but it is true. I am really ecstatic for the players. “

On Friday, Namibia tied their modest 126 points with 53 unbeaten games, captain Gerhard Erasmus.

“We are a small country and very few people play cricket. We should be proud of ourselves,” Erasmus said.

Namibia eliminated the Netherlands in 44 games in the 2014 Champions League, defeated the Netherlands in 44 games, and won 8 wickets, which is behind Sri Lanka in Group A.

Sri Lanka will be in the Super 12 with England, Australia, South Africa, the defending champions West Indies and Bangladesh.

“We were ecstatic, and I had to remind myself of what just happened, but it happened to a group of very good people,” De Bruyne added. “Now is the time for us to reflect and enjoy this moment, but of course we are not here to lie down now.

“Facing India, Pakistan and New Zealand, these types of teams will be a great experience for these players, but we want to be competitive in everything we do, whether it’s the ball, hitting or On the field.

“We show our way, we will participate in the competition, and we look forward to this.”

Erasmus made three-pointers and six-pointers in his 49 games, while David Weiss, who played for South Africa in the 2016 World Cup, remained unbeaten in 28 games.

“When pressure arises, I count on my seniors to stand up. The two of us did it tonight. Hope we can do it in the game,” said Erasmus, who was in the third wicket with Wiese. The mouth scored 53 points.

Wiese scored two six-pointers and a boundary in his 14 games, which was a whirlwind compared to Namibia’s steady early progress.

In addition to securing the last place in the Super 12 stage, Namibia also guarantees a place in the 2022 Australian Championship.
