The 2023 Critics Choice Awards winners include Janelle Monáe and Jeff Bridges getting special honors.
Bridges received the Critics’ Choice Lifetime Achievement Award.
Monáe, fresh off a critically acclaimed turn in Glass Onion: A Knives Out mystery, will take home the SeeHer Award. The award, in its seventh year, goes to a recipient “who advocates for gender equality, portrays characters with authenticity, defies stereotypes and pushes boundaries.” Previous honorees include Zendaya, Halle Berry, Kristen Stewart, Claire Foy, Viola Davis, Gal Gadot and Kristen Bell. Kate Hudson presented the award to her non-binary Glass Onion co-star.
Abbott Elementary led the nominations for TV, coming in with six, while Everything Everywhere All At Once garnered a whopping 14 nods. The Critics Choice Awards, historically, tend to be great predictors of the Oscars.
The 2023 ceremony was a little less star-studded than originally planned, as stars including Colin Farrell, Brendan Gleeson, Jamie Lee Curtis and Michelle Pfeiffer were forced to sit out the celebrations after testing positive for COVID-19.
