Cyclist fitted himself with video equipment to perform dangerous stunt Sheikh Zayed Bridge have been arrested Abu Dhabi Police.
Police said they risked their lives by walking to the top of the bridge and riding bicycles along the top of the structure. The video, posted on Monday, has gone viral and was shared by social media users.
Abu Dhabi police said members of the group, which includes different nationalities, were arrested after performing a dangerous stunt “on the top of a bridge in Abu Dhabi”.
The persons involved have been transferred to the relevant departments for handling and are suspected of violating traffic safety laws and regulations.
A statement from Abu Dhabi Police said: “They used bicycles to perform stunts in an uncivilized manner, endangering the lives of other road users. They also shared the footage on social media.”
The video shows a group of three people reaching the top of the bridge, and then one of them rides down from the vault at high speed.
Another cyclist used a camera affixed to his bike to demonstrate the stunt he was performing. He was not injured despite losing control and falling along the edge of the structure.
Police are urging young people to abide by the UAE’s laws on safety and not endanger their own or others’ lives.
“Persons who ride bicycles in dangerous places to participate in performances and shows, as well as post clips on social media platforms, may be penalized,” the police statement said.
The force did not say when the stunt occurred.
