The Indian Navy said on Sunday that it is closely monitoring the movement of Cyclone Gulab and keeping naval ships and aircraft on standby for rescue and rescue operations. The Meteorological Department of India stated that the Gulab is likely to pass through Gopalpur in the Ganjam region of Odisha and Kalingapatnam in Andhra Pradesh around midnight.
According to an official statement, the Eastern Naval Command in Visakhapatnam and naval officers in charge of Odisha have carried out preparatory activities to counter the effects of the cyclone.
It said the Navy has been in contact with the state government to provide assistance as needed and closely monitor the movement of cyclones.
It added that as part of the preparations, the flood rescue team and diving team have been pre-deployed in Odisha and are ready to provide immediate assistance in Visakhapatnam.
Two naval vessels transport humanitarian aid and disaster relief supplies at sea, and medical teams will provide assistance in the worst-hit areas.
The statement said that the aircraft was ready at INS Dega in Visakhapatnam and the INS Rajali Naval Air Station near Chennai to conduct aerial surveys, evacuate the wounded, and drop relief supplies in the worst-hit areas.
At the same time, the East Coast Railway cancelled 34 pairs of trains due to Hurricane Gulab.
According to its announcement, ECoR has also rescheduled 13 trains and diverted at least 17 trains.
It said: “In view of the forecast of heavy rain and cyclones, ECoR has taken all necessary precautions.” The railway is conducting extensive patrols in areas that may be affected.
The bridge is monitored and appropriate steps have been taken for electrical and signal operations.
