Czech voters decide the future of Prime Minister Babis in a two-day election | Election News

[ad_1]

Opinion polls show that Babis’s ANO movement will get the highest number of votes, but it may not win enough votes to form a new government.

Czechs will vote in the two-day parliamentary elections, and opinion polls show that although new financial transaction scandals appeared on populist billionaire prime minister Andrej Babis, it is still very likely Stay supported.

The polling station will open at 12:00 GMT on Friday and the vote will fill 200 seats in the lower house of the Parliament of the Czech Republic, which is the main legislative body of the EU and NATO member states.

The 67-year-old Eurosceptic Babis has been turbulent since taking office in December 2017. During his tenure, his career has flourished, but there have also been numerous scandals, including alleged fraud involving EU subsidies.

The latest focus is on the publication of Pandora’s paper, which Allegedly Babis invested $22 million in a shell company and purchased 16 properties in the south of France. Babis denied any wrongdoing.

Despite the scandal, public opinion polls show that Babis’s ANO (YES) campaign will lead the vote with at least 25% approval rate.

But it is not clear whether he will win enough votes to form a new coalition government.

Babis led a minority coalition government composed of ANO and the left-wing Social Democratic Party. He is still in power with the support of the Communist Party.

Both the Social Democratic Party and the Communist Party may be struggling to win any parliamentary seat at this time-this may force ANO to seek an agreement with far-right nationalists to retain power.

Babis launches anti-immigration and anti-EU campaign

The five opposition parties set aside their differences and formed two alliances aimed at ousting Babis.

The Together alliance of the center-right includes the conservative Civic Democrats and the Christian Democrats, as well as the liberal and conservative TOP 09 parties.

The Liberal Pirate Party and STAN formed by the mayor and independent candidates formed a center-left coalition.

Everyone is expected to win about 20% of the vote, and they all stated that if given the opportunity, they will cooperate to form a government.

At the same time, Babis bet on a radical campaign to deploy anti-immigration and anti-EU rhetoric and condemned the EU’s carbon reduction targets.

He does not rule out forming an alliance with the Freedom and Direct Democracy Alliance, an anti-immigrant and anti-Muslim party that hopes to lead the country from the European Union and hold a referendum on NATO membership. The party’s voting support rate is slightly higher than 10%.

President Milos Zeman Said He will give the largest individual political party, almost certainly the ANO of Babis, for the first time to have a chance to form a cabinet.
