May 15th – Moving to Queens Creek is a feeling of home for Steve King, the new general manager of the new Dave & Buster entertainment venue in Dallas, which will be in town on May 15th opened.
King started at the chain six years ago, working stints in Scottsdale and Tempe, and looking forward to returning after working at Dave & Buster’s in Omaha, Nebraska.
“I don’t have to worry about snow and jackets, so I probably throw out a lot of winter gear,” he joked.
He wasn’t kidding when he said, “I’m excited to be back in the Phoenix market”—especially at the new 19,000-square-foot venue at Queen Creek Marketplace at 21000 S. Ellsworth Loop Road.
To celebrate its new location, Dave & Busters is offering arcade games, food, drinks and 40-foot HDTVs, and offers passes to unlimited free games this Friday for the first 100 people to attend the grand opening at 5:30 p.m. Monday.
The venue has already hired 175 people for nearly all types of work at the new location, King said.
“We offer front and back office positions, including waiters, bartenders, hosts, live chefs, game technicians, and more,” King said.
Dave & Buster’s offers top performers the opportunity to move up the company quickly, King said. More than 30% of the company’s current management team were promoted from within.
The Queen Creek location is Dave & Buster’s fourth in the valley, and King said its opening fits with the growth the town is seeing.
Company executives agree.
“Queen Creek has experienced significant growth over the past few years, making it the perfect candidate for the new Dave & Buster’s,” said Kelly Valdez, Dave & Buster’s Local Store Marketing Manager.
“Young new residents moving to Queen Creek want an entertainment and restaurant destination right in their backyard without having to travel to nearby cities,” Valdez said.
“Residents previously had to walk 20+ miles to visit a location in our greater Phoenix area. Queen Creek is growing at an incredible rate, and this larger community requires more entertainment options than are currently available in Queen Creek.”
Valdez said the company made its decision while considering the performance potential and track record of their existing Valley locations.
“After seeing the success of our other three greater Phoenix areas and the growth volume in Queen Creek, we decided to establish a location in Queen Creek,” Valdez added.
“I just see it expanding further east and increasing our opportunities there,” King added.
Dave & Busters will go head-to-head with Fat Cats, another big entertainment venue in town, which offers eight movie screens, 20 bowling lanes, arcade games, light-up miniature golf, bar and restaurant.
Dave & Buster’s marketing team did extensive research on businesses around town before deciding to open a new store in Queen Creek, Valdez said.
She said the chain’s focus sets it apart from other entertainment venues like Fat Cat’s and the newly announced Pecan Lake Recreation Complex, a locally owned agricultural entertainment-themed venue that primarily offers outdoor attractions and high-end food options.
“Dave & Buster’s differentiates itself from other entertainment venues in the area by catering to the sports audience,” Valdez said. “With major league football, baseball, basketball and college sports all played in the greater Phoenix area, sports fans need a destination to watch the games.”
In her State of the Union address earlier this year, Queens Creek Mayor Julia Wheatley touted the opening of Dave & Buster’s as a highlight for the town’s growing business community.
Founded in 1982 and headquartered in Copper, Texas, Dave & Buster’s Entertainment, Inc. has 200 venues in North America through two brands: Dave & Buster’s and Main Event. The latter has locations in Eastvale, but not currently in Queens Creek.
With 152 locations in 41 states, Puerto Rico and Canada, Dave & Buster’s offers guests the opportunity to “eat, drink, play and see,” all in one place.
Each restaurant offers a full menu of entrées and appetizers, a full selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, and a variety of entertainment attractions centered around games and viewing live sports and other televised events.
Main Event operates 52 centers in 17 states across the country, offering state-of-the-art bowling, laser tag, hundreds of arcade games and virtual reality.
