A man posing as a United Arab Emirates government official has been arrested for allegedly defrauding a hotel in the country’s capital by fleeing without paying outstanding bills worth more than Rs 2 million, Delhi police said. “A case under Section 419/420/380 of the IPC was registered at PS Sarojini Nagar on the complaint of Anupam Das Gupta, who claimed that he was the general manager of Leela Hotel Palace, Sarojini Nagar, Delhi, and that the accused Mahamed Sharif retained him in 2022. was at The Leela Palace in New Delhi on August 1 and fled the hotel on November 20, 2022 with the hotel’s valuables without settling his outstanding bill,” the police said. According to the complaint, a task force was set up to arrest the absconding defendant, and made every effort to trace the defendant.

Sharif was arrested from Dakshin Kannada on January 19 and appeared in court. According to the police, the accused checked into the hotel using fake business cards and impersonated an important official of the government of the United Arab Emirates (office of His Highness Sheikh Farah bin Zayed Al Nahyan).

“He also provided a resident card of the United Arab Emirates on arrival on August 1, 2022. After staying for about 3.5 months, the accused fled the hotel with the hotel’s valuables and submitted a farewell card worth INR 2 million.
