Delta Covid variant: US urges vaccinated Americans to wear masks indoors-News

[ad_1]

Due to the highly contagious Delta variant, the number of coronavirus cases in the United States has been on the rise.

US health authorities said on Tuesday that Americans who have been vaccinated against Covid-19 should re-wear masks in indoor public places in areas where the coronavirus is spreading rapidly.

In the enhanced guidance issued earlier this month, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) also recommended that all students, teachers, and staff from kindergarten to grade 12 wear masks, regardless of whether they have been vaccinated or not.

Coronavirus cases in the U.S. have been on the rise due to the highly contagious Delta variant. This variant emerged in India but spread rapidly and now accounts for more than 80% of U.S. coronavirus cases.

President Joe Biden stated that increasing vaccinations and wearing masks will help the United States avoid the pandemic lockdown, school closures and school closures that the country faces in 2020. “We will not go back in time,” Biden said.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention stated that the transmission rate of 63.4% of the counties in the United States is sufficient to ensure indoor shelter, and the policy should be restored immediately. Manhattan, Los Angeles and San Francisco, and the entire state of Florida meet the communication standards, but Chicago and Detroit do not.

Randi Weingarten, president of the American Federation of Teachers, praised the new CDC mask guidelines in a statement, calling them “necessary precautions before children under 12 can be vaccinated against COVID and more Americans over the age of 12 are vaccinated.”

The CDC’s previous guidance to schools only required unvaccinated students to wear masks.

However, the new CDC recommendations are not binding, and many Americans, especially in Republican-leaning states, may choose not to follow these recommendations. At least eight states prohibit schools from requiring masks.

Republican Arizona Governor Doug Ducey refused to accept CDC guidance. “Arizona does not allow wearing masks…” he said in a statement. “We have passed all of these laws and they will not change.”

The United States leads the world in the average number of new infections per day, accounting for one-ninth of the number of cases reported every day in the world. The 7-day average of new cases has been rising sharply, reaching 57,126, which is still about a quarter of the peak of the pandemic.

Two months ago, when the CDC announced that fully vaccinated people could take off their masks, Covid-19 was on a downward trend. Since then, the vaccination rate has slowed significantly, with only 58% of eligible people fully vaccinated.

CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky told reporters in a phone briefing that new research shows that fully vaccinated people carry as much virus as unvaccinated people, indicating that they may Infect others.

“We think it’s important for people to understand that they can spread the disease to other people,” she said.

On Monday, the Biden administration confirmed that it will not remove any existing international travel restrictions, citing the increasing number of COVID-19 cases and it is expected that these cases will continue to increase in the coming weeks.

Ford Motor Company said it will restore mask requirements for all employees and visitors at its Missouri and Florida plants.

The United Food and Commercial Workers Union, which has 1.3 million members, said the new mask guidelines are a “critical step,” but it is far from enough.
