Demi Lovato never thought she would live to be 30 years old.
The chart-topping pop star celebrated her milestone birthday on August 20 – but Demi was surprised to reach the milestone after suffering a near-fatal drug overdose in 2018.
“That was something I didn’t think was possible,” Demi explained. “Even when I was awake, my depression was so intense that I didn’t think I would be here today. But here I am.”
The “Cool To Summer” producer suffered multiple strokes, heart attacks, and even brain damage after an overdose.
But Demi is now looking forward to the future and even hopes to start a family someday.
She told SPIN magazine: “I’m in a new chapter in my life and I don’t know what my 30s have in store for me, but hopefully one day I can have a family.”
Demi has battled alcohol and drug addiction throughout her career.
But the “Sorry, No Sorry” producer thinks she’s actually been too candid about her struggles in recent years.
She shared: “As I get older, I’m trying to learn to be more private.
“I think I do give people so much insight into my life that I have to think, do people deserve this?
“I’m sure by the time I’m 35 my mouth will be glued because I’m tired of talking about myself. And I’m sure people are tired of hearing me talk about myself.”
Demi rose to fame as a child by starring in the hit children’s TV series Barney and Friends.
But looking back, she now regrets getting involved in the entertainment industry so early.
She said: “I’ll always see child stars as what I’ve been through, it’s been traumatic for me.
“No child should be in the limelight. There’s so much pressure.
“There’s no childhood you’ve never had. It messes things up because you have problems from that experience, whether it’s addiction, trust issues, or financial stress. It’s going to follow you into adulthood.”
