The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa) has started construction work on the Hatta Sustainable Waterfalls project. The AED46 million ($12.5 million) project was recently awarded to Dubai Utilities to turn it into a unique tourist destination.
According to Dewa, the project is unique due to its innovative architectural concept, which was inspired by the hexagonal honeycomb design, as Hatta is a well-known global honey hub.
The oasis of the project is connected by bridges across the canal, forming a lively and picturesque place to spend time and take beautiful photos.
Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, managing director and chief executive of Dewa, said the main purpose of the project was to transform Hatta into a tourism and investment hub while preserving its heritage.
“Through these projects, we aim to develop Hatta and provide innovative employment opportunities for the citizens of the area and promote social well-being. The waterfall project aims to create a sustainable natural environment, in addition to developing the area and turning it into a recreational spaces and tourist attractions,” Al Tayer noted.
The idea started with creating a natural water flow that fits the nature of Hatta. The four oases are rich in investment opportunities, in addition to shops selling natural honey, local products and souvenirs, there are coffee shops, restaurants and children’s playgrounds.
Al Tayer said the project will provide visitors with a unique experience, showcasing the beauty of the UAE’s mountains.
“At every step of the project, Dewa was passionate about using sustainable materials that blend in with the natural environment. The canal ends with a lake that forms a diverse bio-ecosystem and promotes balanced natural aquatic life,” he noted.
“The location of the children’s play area was carefully chosen as it intersects three oases earmarked for coffee shops and restaurants, allowing the children’s guardians to monitor them,” he added.
The Hatta Sustainable Waterfalls project will utilize the slopes of the upper dam at the Hatta factory to create natural waterfalls.
“A waterway will be built below the dam. Water used in the waterfall will be collected at the end of the stream, recycled and pumped back to the top of the dam. The area will be developed to create recreational spaces and restaurants,” he added.-TradeArabia News Service
