He said that DEWA has allocated 4.26 billion dirhams to provide electricity and water for this world-class event and use the latest smart systems to support its electricity and water infrastructure projects.
“We believe that Expo 2020 Dubai will become an international platform that will help develop innovative solutions to meet the challenges facing the world and create a better future for future generations,” he said.
Al Tayer pointed out that through participation, DEWA aims to provide visitors with a unique experience and introduce them to the company’s efforts, which helps make Dubai the smartest and happiest city in the world. DEWA’s pavilion highlights our innovative projects and initiatives, especially in renewable and clean energy, as well as the use of the fourth industrial revolution technology to disrupt the entire business of public utilities. DEWA intends to become the world’s first digital utility company to use an autonomous system through its digital division, Digital DEWA. The pavilion is divided into three key areas: the exhibition area, which includes eight projects; the backyard; and the Solar Decathlon Middle East (SDME) area.
The pavilion highlights the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, which is the world’s largest single-site solar park with a planned installed capacity of 5,000 megawatts (MW) by 2030. After completion, the solar park will reduce annual carbon emissions by more than 6.5 million tons.
It also showcased the Green Hydrogen Project, the first project in the Middle East and North Africa to use solar energy to produce hydrogen. It is implemented in the outdoor test facility of Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park in cooperation with DEWA, Expo 2020 Dubai and Siemens Energy. The pilot plant is designed to adapt to applications and test platforms for different uses of industrial and transportation hydrogen in the future.
The company’s digital division, Digital DEWA, aims to make DEWA the world’s first digital utility that uses autonomous systems for renewable energy and storage, while expanding the use of artificial intelligence (AI) and digital services. Digital DEWA focuses on four pillars: solar energy, energy storage, artificial intelligence and digital services.
The 250 MW pumped-storage hydropower plant in Hatta is the first such power plant in the Gulf Cooperation Council. It has a storage capacity of 1,500 MWh and a service life of up to 80 years. The hydroelectric power station will use water from the Hatta Dam and the reservoir being built on the mountain. Advanced turbines running on clean energy from the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum solar park will pump water from the dam to the upper reservoir. The turbines operating at the waterfall speed of the above reservoir will be used to generate electricity and supply it to DEWA’s grid.
The company also showcased its Space-D program, which aims to build DEWA’s capabilities and train UAE professionals to use space technology to enhance its power and water network, and will use the technology of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. The feature of the project is to launch a main satellite equipped with the latest imaging and satellite communication technologies to monitor the performance and efficiency of photovoltaic solar panels in the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park using special cameras on the main satellite. It will also study the impact of weather and climate change on energy infrastructure and supply to improve the reliability of supply and the sustainability of resources.
The pavilion displayed a model of its new headquarters, named Al Shera’a (Arabic for sailing ship). It will become the world’s tallest, largest, and smartest government zero-energy building. The total energy used by buildings in a year will be equal to or less than the energy generated on site in that year. DEWA’s new headquarters aims to obtain a LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) platinum rating and a WELL building standard silver rating. It will use the latest technologies, including the Internet of Things, big data and open data, artificial intelligence, and the latest smart building management technologies.
As part of its exhibition hall, DEWA set up a booth for the World Green Economy Organization (WGEO). WGEO and the UAE Ministry of Climate Change and Environment will cooperate with the United Nations Development Programme, the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and the World Bank Group to organize the “Middle East and North Africa Climate Week 2022”. The UAE will The event will be held for the first time in the Middle East and North Africa from March 2nd to 3rd, 2022.
DEWA has allocated a booth for the Middle East Solar Decathlon (SDME) in its pavilion. It is part of the cooperation between the Supreme Energy Council of Dubai and DEWA and the US Department of Energy.
