The number of smart water meters in Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa) grew by 73.6% between 2018 and 2022. Its total increased from 566,214 million in August 2018 to 983,185 million in August 2022.
Dewa noted that it has a secure and automated infrastructure to manage meter data. Automatic meter reading helps customers receive instant information about their consumption patterns and proactively and efficiently manage, monitor and control their consumption anytime, anywhere.
This also enables customers to detect and repair water leaks in a timely manner to reduce waste. This maintains natural resources and protects the environment, it added.
Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD and CEO of Dewa, said smart meters are the backbone of the smart grid and one of the pillars of our digital transformation. They improve operational efficiency and reduce losses.
“Dewa has more than 2 million smart and water meters in Dubai. Its smart meter analysis and diagnostic center monitors smart meters remotely every 15 minutes,” he said.
According to him, the Smart Grid is an integral part of Dewa’s strategy to develop the most efficient systems for managing facilities and services based on intelligent and integrated systems using disruptive technologies and Fourth Industrial Revolution applications such as Artificial Intelligence (AI).
