Effective April 1, 2023, Abu Dhabi Police will begin implementing a minimum speed limit system on the first and second lanes on the left in both directions on Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Road.

Major General Ahmed Saif Bin Zaitoun Al Muhairi, Director of Central Operations at Abu Dhabi Police, said the maximum speed on this road is 140 km/h, while the minimum speed limit on the first and second lanes from the left is 120 km/h .
Major General Al Muhairi added that from April 1, drivers traveling below 120 km/h in these lanes will receive warning notices until the end of the month, but from May 1, 2023, fines will be issued. A fine of 400 dirhams.
He also explained that the third lane from the left and the last lane dedicated to heavy vehicles are not subject to the minimum speed limit system, calling on motorists to observe safe driving to protect public safety.
He added that the move was aimed at improving driver safety and forcing slower vehicles to stay in the right lane to give way to vehicles coming from behind at high speed on the left.
