“UAE Expresses Disapproval of Israeli Ground Operations in Gaza”

The UAE has vehemently criticized Israel’s military ground operations in the Gaza Strip and has made an urgent appeal for an immediate ceasefire to safeguard the lives of civilians. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs conveyed the UAE’s apprehensions as Israeli infantry entered Gaza, intensifying the military conflict and exacerbating the dire humanitarian situation in the region.

Protection of Civilian Lives

The ministry statement emphatically emphasized the necessity of a prompt ceasefire to ensure the safeguarding of civilians and civilian infrastructure. It underscored the importance of adhering to international humanitarian law and treaties that protect civilians’ rights and safety during conflicts.

UN General Assembly Resolution: Gaza

The UAE actively supported a United Nations General Assembly resolution that called for a humanitarian truce in Gaza and the cessation of hostilities. This resolution, strongly backed by the UAE, was seen as a crucial step towards de-escalation, aimed at restoring peace and safeguarding the lives of civilians.

Opening Humanitarian Corridors

In addition to the ceasefire, the resolution urged the immediate establishment of secure humanitarian corridors to facilitate the unrestricted flow of humanitarian aid into Gaza, addressing the pressing needs of the population.

Emergency UN Security Council Session

The UAE has requested an emergency session of the United Nations Security Council to discuss the deteriorating situation in Gaza. The session, expected to be held under the open format, will include insights from key figures, including UN humanitarian chief Martin Griffiths and UNRWA’s Commissioner General Philippe Lazzarini.

Continued Humanitarian Concerns

UN agencies have consistently expressed their concerns about the worsening humanitarian situation in Gaza exacerbated by the three-week-long blockade imposed by Israel and the ongoing bombing campaign, which has resulted in significant loss of life.

Israeli Support for Humanitarian Aid

The Israeli military in response to the mounting crisis, announced its decision to allow more trucks carrying essential supplies such as food, water, and medicine to enter southern Gaza. This support is intended to assist the civilian population residing in the southern Palestinian territory.
