Members of the Indian community in Abu Dhabi celebrate Diwali, India’s “Festival of Lights,” in a grand manner.

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) Abu Dhabi in conjunction with the Indian Business and Professional Group (IBPG) hosted an evening full of comedy, dance, music and other fun activities.

The show begins with traditional electric lighting, with the audience holding electric “diyas” (lamps) in the ceremony.

Popular stand-up comedian Sapan Verma entertained an audience of more than 600 members and their families. He gets the crowd involved and gets them to take part in his stand-up performances.

“In his entire performance, there was never a dull moment,” said Anu Thomas, the chapter’s social team leader.

Later, pop singer Nimisha Deb sang a vibrant Bollywood song that got the audience on their feet.

“Her songs and the energy she brings with her vocals on stage is amazing. The environment is vibrant and all the members dance to the tune of her songs,” said chapter secretary Rohit Dayma, who recited several Urdu language poetry to maintain energy levels.

In addition, there was a group of young dancers performing.

“Diwali is a festival of lights that allows us to illuminate the light within us and spread that light to others in the form of love, forgiveness, compassion, kindness, and hope in others,” said chapter president John George.

Committee member Ajay Singhvi was surprised by the poetry reading, which was well received by everyone. “Everyone loved all the performances and applauded them,” noted Treasurer Priyanka Birla.

Chapter Vice President Krishnan NV expressed his gratitude and wished everyone a “Happy Diwali”.

“This is the start of Diwali celebrations,” he noted.

The evening of dancing, singing and laughter ended with a sumptuous dinner, including a selection of desserts for you to savour.
