DMCC pitches UAE-UK bilateral trade to London business leaders

DUBAI – DMCC – the world’s flagship free zone and the Dubai Government’s Merchandise Trade and Enterprise Authority – concluded its ‘Made For Trade Live’ global roadshow in London, the eighth in the UK capital, with participants from across the UK Business leaders visit to showcase Dubai’s unique business environment to companies looking to expand internationally.

Organized in partnership with the British Arab Chamber of Commerce (ABCC) and Asia House, the event saw DMCC’s senior executives brief 150 business leaders from a variety of industries through DMCC, one of the world’s most interconnected business districts Ease of doing business in Dubai. The discussions shed light on opportunities to strengthen trade relations between the UAE and the UK in light of the ongoing FTA discussions.

Throughout the roadshow, DMCC highlighted Dubai’s resilience to global economic headwinds, low inflation environment and pro-business policies, which have underpinned its reputation as an international center for business and trade.

Ahmed bin Sulayem, Executive Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of DMCC, said, “In the 12 months to the third quarter of 2022, total trade in goods and services between the UK and the UAE increased by 56.7% to US$23.5 billion, further highlighting the DMCC’s continued role as a key strategic partner and why we own around 40% of UK businesses in the UAE. We return to London to speak directly to business leaders to showcase DMCC as a key player for UK looking to do business in Dubai and trade globally Great potential for businesses to offer.”

Over the years, DMCC has played an important role in developing and enhancing bilateral UAE-UK trade. It currently hosts over 2,000 UK companies, equivalent to around 8% of its member companies, and acts as a conduit for UK businesses looking to access regional and international markets by establishing a base in Dubai.

DMCC’s Made for Trade live roadshow has played an important role in showcasing Dubai as a preferred destination for business by highlighting its unique value proposition and attracting foreign direct investment into the emirate. In the first quarter of 2023, DMCC’s free zones attracted a record 708 new companies, bringing DMCC’s total number of businesses to nearly 23,000.
