Do drivers respect school bus “parking” rules?Abu Dhabi police announce findings

[ad_1]

Abu Dhabi: Most drivers in Abu Dhabi are committed to respecting school bus ‘stop’ signals, a new investigation by Abu Dhabi Police has revealed.

In the poll, 93% of motorists said that when a school bus put up a “stop” sign, they would come to a complete stop and leave a distance of five metres, indicating they knew the rules of the road. This figure is a marked improvement from 2019, when only 76% of motorists were aware of the rule.

Abu Dhabi Police praised drivers for prioritizing student safety and for being patient as students get on and off the bus.

Brigadier General Mohammed Al Muhairi, Director of Abu Dhabi Police Security Media Unit, said the poll showed a high level of awareness and respect for student safety.

what the law says

The UAE Federal Traffic Law stipulates that vehicles approaching a school bus must come to a complete stop and, if the school bus is fitted with a parking arm, a distance of five meters must be maintained. The regulations are designed to protect children from school bus parking accidents, which typically occur when children get on and off the bus or cross the street.

Sensors and cameras installed on each bus monitor compliance with regulations, violating Dh1,000 fines and 10 traffic black spots.

promotional activity

Before the start of each term, Abu Dhabi Police conducts a comprehensive awareness campaign to remind motorists of traffic laws related to school traffic, including school buses.
