Doctor Who is coming to Disney+.
The sci-fi series will return to the screen in November 2023, with David Tennant returning as The Doctor, and the new series will be available on streaming services worldwide, as well as in its UK release. A new collaboration between the BBC and Disney-branded TV aired on the original BBC One in Ireland.
In a statement, Russell T Davies, the returning producer responsible for bringing “Doctor Who” back to the screen in 2005, said: “I love this show, it’s the best of both worlds — —With the vision and joy of the BBC. Together with Disney+, we can launch TARDIS globally, attracting a new generation of fans, while remaining firmly in our traditional home of the BBC in the UK.”
The series had previously only aired on HBO Max and BBC America in the US, but the BBC’s Chief Content Officer Charlotte Moore explained that the upcoming special and new series – Ncuti Gatwa, following Tennant’s time as Lord of Time Will be the fifteenth doctor – and will ensure global audiences can now enjoy the show “the way they deserve it”.
She said: “We are delighted to announce this exciting global partnership with Disney and they are the perfect partner to bring this very British show to the rest of the world. The streaming giant is thought to have more than 220 million subscribers worldwide, and Disney+ president Alisha Bowen explained that the company is “very excited” to bring “beloved franchises” to their platform, making it available to More than 150 markets worldwide.
She said: “We are thrilled to have the opportunity to bring the new season of the beloved franchise exclusively to Disney+ and introduce the show to the next generation of viewers in more than 150 markets around the world.
