Dolce & Gabbana has been thanking its Middle Eastern customers for years with special capsule collections, but the luxury Italian fashion house has gone one step further, recently staging its first show in the region. 120 international models presented menswear and womenswear at the mega-event. “We love Dubai very much. We are very happy to be back. It is a vibrant city with thousands of attractions: you can find everything you want. It is a modern cosmopolitan city where you can buy Spices, fabrics, rugs, typical objects…everything we like,” Stefano Gabbana told Gulf News.
To celebrate the opening of the brand’s store at The Dubai Mall in March, a ‘Day & Night’ fashion show was held at Fashion Avenue, the new extension of the mall where the store is located. In an interview with the same English-language daily, Domenico Dolce described the store as “interpreting our soul with a Middle Eastern dreamy vibe and warm colours”.
Dolce & Gabbana did not approve of repeating the same show everywhere, so organized several other localized shows. “The Milan show is Milan; the New York show is New York; the Dubai show is just for Dubai. You can’t see the same clothes, the same mood, the same things in another place. It’s special. The audience feels it,” Gabbana explained to another Emirati publication, The National.
As such, around half of the 128 looks in its #DGLovesDubai spectacle were dedicated to the region. While the pieces feature distinctive Dolce & Gabbana trademarks such as feather detailing, gold, silver, gemstone embellishments and leopard print, they are complemented by decorative arabesque motifs. Plus, they all sit respectfully below the knee, while lace helps cover the shoulders and over-the-elbow gloves wrap the arms.

Rich colors and fabrics, such as gold, black, burgundy, velvet and brocade, were also popular in southern Italy, a region often used as inspiration for the duo’s presence on the runways. In addition to long evening gowns trimmed in pink peonies, orange, yellow and blue chiffon, we saw some eye-popping styles like a floor-sweeping silver mesh fishtail dress and a flowy patchwork pattern The piece, waist-cinching design flatters any body type. A bold red dress with feathered shoulders and delicate white details also grabbed attention, as did a gown with a lace bodice and a layered tulle skirt with a floral print.
Of course, gowns and gowns were an integral part of the show. The lace and brocade gowns, some with floral prints and black lace interiors, were gorgeous, not to mention the headpieces with gold trim and sequins. Embellished kaftans, including a brocade kaftan with a floral print, are worn with the matching pieces. Plus, it wouldn’t be a Dolce & Gabbana show without tiaras, flower crowns and beaded tiaras.
star-studded audience
Regional influencers such as Karen Wazen Bakhazi, Fatima Almomen, Ola Farahat, Soufeeya Goodson, Fatma Husam, Diala Makki, Firras Alwahabi and Anum Bashir are must-see events dubbed the UAE’s annual fashion event.
Fashion luminaries Lana El Sahely, Sheikha Dana Al Khalifa and Ahmad Dabbas have all woken up to the Dolce & Gabbana show, which they also watched with anticipation, opening to the soundtrack played by the orchestra of La Scala opera house in Italy, The accompaniment consists of three musicians playing electric violins.
